Adultism

Adultism just like childism, ageism, are discrimination against a particular set or oppression of people based on the age group the victims belong to. It is an indirect and mental attacks, mapping out how they should behave, communicate, react, dress by the majority group with social power and privilege whom fall outside the victims age bracket.

Adultism according to a source could be explained as behaviors and attitudes based on the assumption that adults are better than young people, and entitled to act upon young people without their permission or agreement. This treatment is reinforced by social institutions , parents and organizational structures,who often abuse the power that adults have over their children.

The disheartening reality goes deep not only into parents deciding and determining what they intend for their children to become but also enforcing it with several shades of threats. The passion, hobby, interest or failed dreams of a certain parent living with such fantasy automatically become the vision their offspring must chase. Suicide attempts and depression are on the increase as a result of people living the lives they detest which even upon making waves, does not amount to self accomplishment, neither happiness nor fulfillment.

In the practical world today, proposals, ideas, big visions and motions for change has been repeatedly waved aside simply because the pilots of the motions are youth whom are conventionally assumed to be spontaneous and illusional. Unemployment rate is ever increasing in our society because firms and companies keep asking for outrageous working experience, a small fraction of companies are willing to employ starters.

Many of what accumulate as problems for government to tackle today started ages ago with negligence in households and communities. Unfortunately, these root problems are still very active in our present age. It is high time we realized that, parenting can be misused as enslaving if not properly done. We must realize that, the younger generation also have the right to be heard, decide what they want and go after their own interest. Our society must come to term with age not been synonymous with superiority.
