  • The Sustainability of The Nigeria Lockdown.

The Sustainability of The Nigeria Lockdown.

Nigeria like many other African countries always like to take a cue from their European counterparts forgetting about the practicability of the model employed.

The Chinese government, on the one hand, deployed the lockdown method to curb the spread of COVID-19 although draconian in the implementation which yielded the desired result. The Europeans, on the other hand, assessed their environment and culture and came up with the concept of social distancing as that’s the most suitable in an European western configuration.

The government envisaged and identified the negative social-economic, and financial impact of the stay at home order and then rolled out palliatives in form of financial relief to cushion the effect of the financial strain on an average family during this precarious and perilous times. The government understands that mental health could deteriorate and begin to sink into mediocrity as human beings are considered social animals, they set up phone lines where people can reach out should the need arises to speak with a psychologist.

When I heard Nigeria adopted this formula I quickly embarked on some irresponsible rhetorics regarding the workability then I re-evaluated the scenario and concluded that we’re headed in the wrong trajectory.

Firstly, the vast majority of the populace live in extreme poverty thereby making an average housing look like a luxury. This vast demography settle in a nucleated, congested, and unhealthy environment where social distancing measures is seemingly impracticable.

Secondly, a large chunk of the population live hand to mouth meaning they can only feed if they work on a daily basis. The lack of database which has been the major drawback of our economic development has made it impossible to roll out financial relief adequately. Trouble and anarchy looms as people have started flouting the lockdown order, these individuals do not have a choice as they’ve been left with their faith, the basic needs like electricity, social security, employment opportunities, infrastructures, etc are absent and in some cases non-existent.

I do not understand a government that would implement a lockdown and not have a robust plan for the most susceptible individuals like a Door- to – Door feeding strategy and the provision of basic amenities. Sadly, in a nation like Nigeria, a copy and paste strategy like the case of their European counterparts cannot work as the financial and economic impact is more likely to kill than the virus itself. It’s about time they went back to the drawing board.

  • The Scam Industry

    The Scam Industry

Scam is a multifaceted; multi-billion industries with no headquarter yet have several thousands of staffs across the globe with ever puzzling creativity to make victims vulnerable, unconsciously thirst and subject them for exploitation.

Scam has gone by several names known and unknown. For instance, con artist, scam artist, Nigeria 419, yahoo-yahoo among others. It is a fraudulent act to twist victim’s minds, gain their confidence in order to use it against them, exploit their emotional vulnerability and devoid them of all forms of thunderclap of realization of what is truly going on until it is already too late. They creep into people’s lives as a harmless friend but are master planners who would maximize the information they are able to gather from you against you without giving you a hint. It is arguably believed that the first wave of this criminal act came from Nigeria with popular tag 419 was carved out from the section of the Nigeria criminal code which outlaws the practice.

Scammers use anything and everything possible to achieve their goal cat-fishing with deep and elaborate research with checks and balances to feed their victim fantasy and eliminate their doubts. They work in stages using loneliness, depression, or losing a partner as tools while their personality is being tailored to fit their victim’s need. They are everywhere with overwhelming attention to offer, highly romantic, sometimes posing to be older and financially buoyant.

The next face is the real game-changer, it is known as the grooming stage where they use all the information gathered to infect their victim’s brain by exhibiting themselves as the perfect answer for their preys’ wishes and prayers. It is a calculated brainwash mechanism preceding a convincing story either of their large some of their money trapped somewhere or an inheritance that is not accessible or a situation that need to be attended to, before you can be reunited but a bit overwhelming for them which would require you to pay fees, charges or taxes to release such fund. They may also use the trust-guilt mechanism on you, asking you for your bank account details to help them make some transfer from your country to theirs using your details.

Secrecy further makes the exploitation possible as many victims don’t report the crime, not even to their friends and family in order to avoid criticism on their gullibility and sometimes shame due to their emotional involvement with a virtual friend.

  • The Power Of Words

    The Power Of Words

    The quest to conquer

A sole element of human destruction

An insatiable appetite to remain relevant

It often sprout from failure to remain united

Enemies creep in to explore the loophole

    Sanity goes into disarray…

    The sounds of the gong,

    Joyful chattering

    Incessant cry of the children,

    Chatters of adult,

    Men and women tranquility.

    Boom!Boom!!Boom!!!

    All lost,

    Wailing in the market place

    The children are excruciatingly helpless

And the women and elders mourn,

    The feeble are left behind

The wise one are far away in strange land

    Captured into captive

The women and children, rendered homeless

The elders, living a life far worse than death

The one with father becomes fatherless

    The one with mother, motherless

    The land, Desolate and Deserted

Every single war ever fought started with a logical dialogue

Words they say is mightier than sword,

    Capable to rebuild and destroy,

    A peaceful dialogue saves nation,

    Our children happy

    Our youth untainted

    Our women chattering

    Our men productive

    Our talent useful and usable,

    And our land prosperous.

  • Emptiness

    Emptiness

Life is sweet in it fullnesss
The assumption of it is oblivion
The past we can’t nevertheless change
    The present we accept
But the future we never know
We move with the wave of time
    We assume,we make predictions
But the full knowledge we never have
We live life in a void

A kind of emptiness we feel everyday
The next step in journey of life
    We never know .
At times you struggle hard to do something
    It fails
But many a time, you get it easily done without delay
At times you struggle hard to get it.

You feel like doing something great
But you don’t know how or
    Where to start and begin
The choice is yours either to sit down
Or build yourselves to a greater person
And allow time to take charge
    Human struggle is nothing
    Without God..
At the edge of every human success is God.

  • Plane: A symbol for success or A mere means of transportation?

Plane: A symbol for success or A mere means of transportation?

In 1903, the Wright brothers invented and flew the first airplane, this was recognized as “the first sustained and controlled heavier-than-air powered flight”.

    Why was plane invented?

Airplanes are important because they are capable of transporting parcels as well as people to the other side of the world in less than a day. Airplanes deliver quick supplies to remote locations in emergency situations and restock military operations. Airplanes also improve medical care by quickly moving patients from rural areas to large medical centres and transporting organs to distant locations for transplants. Before the advent of safe and convenient travel by airplane, journeys took much longer and were more difficult. That’s why invention of airplanes was considered important.

    Now to the main gist….

A plane is simply a means of transportation.

Dear Africans, 24 hours in Ukraine, United States of America, United Kingdom is same as 24hours in Nigeria, Ghana, we only experience time difference, please stop putting pressure on your brothers and sisters in diaspora. Depression is real. (more…)

  • The invisible hand

    The invisible hand

The universe is full of wonders, some are obvious at sight, some are conceived in our minds, some as a result of unresolved puzzle of mysteries, some by eventualities of dreadful events. The wisdom and knowledge of our sages and scholars are sometimes embarrassed which makes it more traumatizing for people with faith to wonder why some would come to conclusion that, ” arguably, there’s God ”.

But alas! Humans have the freedom and right to choose whatever he believes in. There is scientific explanation for almost every occurrence that is there to think about; like what keeps the oceans at its banks, what orchestrated the various landscape we have, the funny slopes of some mountains, the lightning, the thunder, the rain, the sun, the stars, the absence of some of them sometimes, and what regulate them.

The debate of God’s existence or not is a typical one that may not be won on either side. Nevertheless, there’s one essential factor we all trivialize despite knowing its importance and ability to change the mentality of any mortal being when its wall collapsed our health. It’s never a big deal when intact, a man can vow, vouch, threaten, prove, demonstrate and convince several thousand even millions to think from his perspective to accept a policy, a doctrine, a religion, a thesis or even a judgment. But the moment his health fails, nothing else in the entire world matters much to him anymore, as they are secondary to his real need.

At some point, a sick person irrespective of his belief in God, questions the supposed Supreme being, questions the universe, questions their own subconscious being, seek spiritual aid and hopes for a miracle. The expertise of the doctors means nothing to the patients at those points… Their wealth, achievements and past glory hold no water. Even the poorest of all men who had lived a life full of hardship would still hope for this miracle and hang on to life. But does that make health the so-called God? Oh NO! What about the miracle in quote?

Why are humans always submissive at the loss of their health? Why do they shift grounds at those moments? Why do they tend to give room for more love and affection with their family members and friends at those critical moments? Of all questions, that is valid, ” Is there God ” should never have been one of those but if you ask me if God is an entity, I wouldn’t have an answer to give you because, in every single thing around you, there’s always one thing beyond your explanation, understanding or description.

LOVE OTHERS WHEN YOU STILL CAN.

    Let’s talk about Skin Bleaching.

    Black is beautiful,

    Black don’t crack,

Love your skin, it’s your glow.

    You are perfect.

About five years ago, I wrote an end of thesis that was focused on “Reading Images and the representatoion of black people in text books and Encylopedias ” It focused on beauty and the way people do everything possible to enhance themselves  to look fairer and whiter, unfortunately, it is still the case as of today with more sophisticated products.

  • Echoes of the Non-guilty

    Echoes of the Non-guilty

    Years ‘ve come and gone

Anticipation and anxiety tends to be more interesting than reality

Thirst seem to be more fulfilling than the taste of water

Abstinence which was preached as fundamental for purity seems to be my curse

Loving you was easy but impossibility is an understatement for letting you go

Taking you to the altar was one of the most fulfilling dreams I had

    Bed undefiled, temple nurtured whole

Yet, my appetite couldn’t be appeased despite being just a little above average

This marriage is my prison room

And the locks are never to be found

Yes! You are a career woman and the very best at what you do

But why am I condemned to coldness?

You wouldn’t stretch beyond what feels right to you

And the greatest agony is you don’t even know the depth to which you are subjecting me to pain

If only I could love again, I would try

But, I don’t have the magic card to give

Maybe breaking my marital vows isn’t so difficult

Maybe finding pleasure here and there isn’t that hard

Maybe concentrating on my happiness is an easy way out

    But the fact still remains…

I will never fall in love again, not in this lifetime

Your love give more pain than poison

And you have no idea how lonely a married man is

I hate loving you this much but I can’t help myself

Sweetheart, may you not be unfortunate to love this much

The pain creeps in slowly but excruciating

My only wedded wife, how I wish this friendship never led to marriage.

Beauty and Brains: Rexy Rolle, the 30-year-old woman who runs a Black-Owned Airline

     Inspiration of the Day

Meet 30-year-old  REXY ROLLE, the woman running one of the most successful Black-Owned Airlines In The World. She is born Sherrexcia ROLLE and hails from Bahamas. She currently works as the Vice President of Operations and General Counsel at Western Air based out of the San Andros Airport in the Bahamas.

She deals with the daily operations of the company and also anticipating new destinations and plans on expanding the fleets and currently, the fleet is valued at over $90 million.

The company is owned by her father Rex Rolle,  who is President and CEO of the company. Leading a company as such is not what we see black women do daily, Rexy Rolle is an inspration because young girls can do look up to her and believe in themselves. In her interview with essence she said

” I hope the lesson that they take from me is that you have to take advantage of any and all opportunities that may be presented to you. When I was younger I didn’t fully understand everything that my parents were sacrificing to do in terms of what their bigger vision was. I had to make a decision as to whether I was going to embrace their dreams, and build upon it or just feel comfortable and live my life, and not be aggressive in doing anything else. It’s important to know that whether you have limited opportunities or an abundance of opportunities, there’s always going to be an abundance of open doors, and it’s up to you whether you slam it shut, or burst it wide open.”

The Choice is always ours to make when the time is right, things may not always go as planned but never stop aiming, never stop dreaming.
